Course Description

When Prozac and Psychotherapy Haven’t Worked: New Thinking and Treatments

Instructor: Jay Pomerantz
Dates: Thursdays, Sept 29-Nov 17
Time: 10:00 AM-11:30 AM
Location: Online via Zoom

For many years, the mainstay of depression treatment has been antidepressants (particularly SSRI’s) combined with psychotherapy. The problem is that approximately one-third of patients do not respond adequately. More intensive treatment by combining antidepressants and adding other enhancers will over time boost treatment response to perhaps 85%. That still leaves many individuals not adequately treated with a condition that may persist for years. The advent of new treatment modalities such as repetitive Trans Magnetic Stimulation, ketamine and psychedelics (such as psilocybin) is very welcome news.
