Course Description

This course will focus on trauma and trauma-related responses. Course content will prepare participants to distinguish between exposure to traumatic experiences and the development of trauma-related disorders such as Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), and to differentiate between trauma and stress-related disorders. Particular emphasis will be placed on critically assessing the limitations of diagnosis, including those which are trauma related.

Learner Outcomes

By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:  

  • Differentiate between trauma exposure and the experience of PTSD and trauma-related disorders; and 
  • Examine the limitations of current DSM diagnoses in explaining trauma-related symptoms. 

When participants return to the workplace, they will be able to:  

  • Compare and contrast experiences of neglect and trauma, particularly during childhood, with individuals they work with; and 
  • Differentiate between trauma and stress-related disorders.
