Course Description

Rarely does a writer draft a perfect document on the first try. The Declaration of Independence had at least six drafts. Martin Luther King developed his “I have a dream” speech over several years. Good writing almost always requires revision—the practice of revisiting your work and making structural changes to ensure you are making your point as effectively as possible. Going beyond spell-check and fixing typos, this workshop will guide you through the differences between revision and editing. Through a peer review, you will learn how to identify areas of your work that are ripe for revision, and help other students do the same. By the end of the workshop, you will be poised to thoroughly revise your capstone project to further develop your message and will leave with an editing checklist for a final polish.

In order for this workshop to be as effective as possible, you should bring the instructions or proposal for their capstone project (anything that sets the goals of what you hope to accomplish in the document), and a draft of what you have written so far.
