ONCE1214 - Beginning Conversational Spanish
Course Description
Designed for beginners, we will have you speaking and reading Spanish in no time. You will practice the basic building blocks of the language and common idiomatic expressions. You will know enough vocabulary and grammar for simple conversations, and you will learn how to ask and answer questions. Whether you speak some Spanish and need a refresher, or no Spanish, you will complete the course with the skills to communicate in Spanish.
This is a two-month, online course.

Learner Outcomes
Course outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course you will:
- Have the ability to form and speak simple sentences in Spanish
- Know how to tell time and identify the days of the week, months of the year, and how to ask for a birth date
- Be able to ask questions using words such as how, when, who, do you, where, why, how much, which, what, what for, and to give instruction
- Have an understanding of cultural norms in Latin American countries
- Master the basics of reading and writing in Spanish
Course objectives
- To recognize the basic sounds of the Spanish language and the correct pronunciation
- To be able to make introductions using the verb “to be,” adjectives and vocabulary related to the medical profession, and
- Spanish notions of gender and number for nouns, adjectives, articles and their agreement
- To understand the Spanish uses of verb mood, tense number, and person
- To gain the ability to ask and answer questions in Spanish
- To acquire the ability to have simple conversations, and read and write in Spanish
