HBGBHSL0021 - DHS - BHSL Staff Training - Advanced Investigations: Digging Deeper and Advancing the Investigative Process

Course Description

This hybrid training will review important investigative concepts and identify trauma-informed best practices for investigations and interviewing. Students will be asked to practice an interactive, collaborative approach to examine how to enhance core components of their investigations and consider ways they can strengthen their wholistic approach throughout an investigation. This 7.5-hour training includes 3 hours of prerequisites and 4.5 hours of live virtual training. 

Course Outline

Registration: 

• Individual online registration is required  
• This training is for Pennsylvania Department of Human Services Bureau of Human Services Licensing staff only 
• There are a limited number of registrations per training 
• This hybrid training has two parts, both need to be completed to receive credit. The total training time (both parts) is 8 hours. 
   

In order to receive 7.5-credit hours, participants must: 

• Complete the 3-hour prerequisite training, via Thinkific  
• Participate in the 4.5-hour live virtual training, via Zoom  
• VIDEO AND AUDIO required to be turned on for live virtual training, via Zoom
• Certificates will be issued upon successful completion and verification of both activities  
• Partial certificates for completing one activity are not available

Learner Outcomes

Upon completion of this training, the learner will be able to:

1. Identify key investigative concepts as a foundation for advanced investigations.
2. Discover ways in which trauma can impact an individual’s behavior, memory, and cognitive thinking to increase trauma awareness and trauma sensitivity. 
3. Develop practical strategies to recognize and mitigate biases in their investigations.
4. Identify how an investigative plan can help to strengthen a wholistic approach of an investigation.
5. Examine comprehensive evidence to identify a sufficient violation list. 
6. Explain how enhanced investigations have direct impact on repeated violations and sufficient implementation of plan of corrections.
7. List reasons why a self-evaluation and trauma-informed best practices are important in their investigative process.

Recommendations

Audio and video ARE required and must be turned on for the live, virtual training via the Zoom platform. If you do not have audio on your computer, the Zoom platform can be accessed on your smartphone or tablet. You must have the hardware (desktop or laptop, tablet or smartphone) and software (Browsers such as Chrome, Safari, Firefox or Microsoft Edge) to access the internet. A broadband internet connection (DSL, cable, fiber, etc.) is recommended with a hardwired Ethernet cable. Wireless (Wi-Fi) connections may be utilized but a weak or congested signal may cause issues with video buffering or content access.
