Tyler Pre-College offers creatively driven high school students the challenging and meaningful experience of learning with other young artists at one of the nation’s top schools for the study of art, design and architecture. Classes are taught by dedicated faculty and practicing professionals who provide students with an immersive, hands-on experience. All programs are non-credit. For Summer 2023, all programs will be on-campus.

  • Environmental Design Institute (grades 10-12)

Program Dates - Choose one or more of the following two-week sessions.

  • Session I: June 26 - July 7 - Studios, Boot Camp offered
  • Session II: July 10 - July 21 - Studios, Boot Camp, Architecture Institute offered
  • Session III: July 24 - August 4 - Studios, Boot Camp, Architecture Institute, Environmental Design Institute offered

Program Components

  • Explore new media and artistic interests
  • Develop technical skills and discover creative career paths
  • Create work suitable for a college admissions portfolio
  • Learn about and use Temple University’s resources for student success
  • Make new friends in class and through social activities and field trips
  • Opt to live on campus
  • Earn a letter of recommendation and/or a certificate of achievement

Program Requirements

To be accepted into the program, students must submit the following documentation:

  • Official or unofficial copy of high school transcript or report card (GPA can be self-reported if student is unable to obtain these documents)
  • Essay or sample of work

Program Fee

  • $1000 for Pre-College Summer Studios
  • $1,100 for Portfolio Boot Camp
  • $1,200 for Environmental Design Institute or Architecture Institute
  • NOT included: housing and on-campus meals (optional) and supplies (required for all programs).
  • Financial aid is available, and students can apply for aid within this application.

How to Apply

The Apply Now button will open our application. Fill out your contact information, provide more information about yourself, and select your class choices. The application is free to complete. Generally, international students may attend summer programs on a B tourist visa or ESTA visa waiver program. I-20s will not be issued for obtaining an F1 visa.

What Happens Next?

  • Your application form will be reviewed and you will be informed of a decision by 3/15/23 (priority) or 4/15/23 (regular). You will have until 5/1/23 to confirm your enrollment 
  • Decision email will also include class choices
  • If you want to add housing to your experience, you may do so on the application or at the time of acceptance. Housing is paid separately with an additional deposit to hold your space.
  • If accepted, students will be required to complete next steps for admitted students.
