Instructions for Accessing the Direct Care Staff Course and Competency Test on Thinkific

Instruction For Access

All PCH and ALR direct care staff persons hired after Oct. 31, 2007, who will provide unsupervised Activities of Daily Living (ADL) services, must successfully complete the course and pass the competency test in accordance with 55 Pa. Code §2600.65(d)(2), §2600.65(d)(3), §2800.65(g)(2), and §2800.65(g)(3) (relating to direct care staff person training and orientation). The course and test must be completed before any direct care staff person can provide unsupervised ADL services.

Thinkific is the learning management system that supports the training and competency test. Instructions for accessing Thinkific will be provided in an email you will receive immediately after registering.

After you complete the training, there will be an online test. The online test has 50 questions and you must score 70 percent or above to pass. You may take the test as many times as needed and each time you take the test the questions will be different. Once you pass the test, you will receive a “certificate of completion” that you must print and give to your employer. You should also maintain a copy of the certificate in your own records.

  • This training is not open to the public.
  • Individuals must be working in a Pennsylvania Personal Care Home or Assisted Living Residence to take this training and competency test.
  • This training and certificate were not developed to meet the regulatory requirements for any other facility, home health agency, or direct care provider in Pennsylvania.
