HOW SCIENCE POLICY SHAPES INNOVATION
Sandy Catz

4 week class - February 2 - February 23

Tuesdays, 1:00 PM-2:30 PM
Government sets science and technology policy through incentives and regulations, ideally in the public interest. Scientists and technology leaders in government, industry, and academia attempt to influence public policy, based on their expertise and (sometimes) their self-interest. This multi-disciplinary course combines topics in science, technology, public policy, and ethics. We will explore current issues in public health, climate change, environmental science and energy. A background in science is not required.

Class limit: 50

Notes

Why when I'm registering do I join the wait list?
Several of our courses are in high demand. In order to accommodate our members who are not tech-savvy and have trouble registering online-we created a registration system in which there is no advantage to registering early, no disadvantage to registering later. When you register, you join the wait list for the course. After the registration period is over, we run a lottery on the courses, and it randomly determines who is admitted to each course and who is not. You typically receive word about which courses you are admitted to, two weeks before the start of the semester.

When will I be notified which classes I have been admitted to?
We typically notify our members about which courses they are admitted to at least two weeks before the semester starts.
