ICE AGE FLOODS SCIENCE CLASS

Instructor: Eric Clausen
4-Week Course on Tuesdays from November 3-December 1 (No class November 24) 9:00 AM-10:00 AM

Lectures will describe a controversy in the geology research community that developed when J. Harlen Bretz in the 1920s proposed a catastrophic flood hypothesis to explain Eastern Washington Channeled Scabland landscapes and how it took 50 years before the hypothesis became widely accepted. The instructor will also describe his own research in areas east of the Rocky Mountains where commonly accepted interpretations are still those originally proposed by the same geologists who refused to accept the Bretz hypothesis.
