Each class session in this eight-week course will consist of a short instructor introduction, a 45-to-60-minute-long science-related YouTube video showing a university or scientific organization public lecture, and time for class discussion. Subject to YouTube availability the lecture topics will be: The Broken Cosmic Dust Ladder, Isaac Newton’s World, Chemical Curiosities, Occam’s Razor, How Irrationality Created Modern Science, Life of SUE–the T-Rex, 10 Years of Mars Curiosity River Discoveries, and Who Discovered Evolution.

Instructor Bio:
Eric Clausen earned a BA in geology at Columbia University and a PhD in geology at the University of Wyoming. He taught geology at Minot State University in North Dakota and now holds the position of professor emeritus. He moved to the Philadelphia area in 2013 and is working on research related to erosional landform feature origins.

Why when I’m registering do I join the Wait List?Several of our courses are in high demand. In order to accommodate our members who are not tech-savvy and have trouble registering online, we created a registration system in which there is no advantage to registering early, no disadvantage to registering later.
When registering, you join the Wait List for each course. After the registration period is over, we run a lottery on the courses, and it randomly determines who is admitted to each course and who is not. You typically will receive notification regarding which courses you are admitted to, about two weeks before the start of the semester. If a course accepts 150 or more students, you are very likely to get into it.
