DEMOCRACY AT RISK: AMERICAN POLITICS IN 2024

Dates: Jan 30 – Mar 19 (7 sessions)

No Class: Mar 5

Time: 9:00 AM 10:00 AM

Our constitutional system has endured since 1789, albeit imperfectly and with numerous challenges. In 2024, we face the likelihood of a presidential election between the two oldest candidates

ever to run, with one indicted on multiple criminal charges, and congressional elections between two parties who seemingly have little or no common ground. Polls show citizens deeply divided, even polarized. How can the average citizen navigate such a chaotic political landscape?

Pre-Requisite: Interest in current affairs and politics.

Maximum In-Person: 25

Laslo Boyd, UPenn, Ph.D., Political Science, 1971. Professor and Department Chair, Department of Government and Public Administration, University of Baltimore. Adjunct Faculty, Towson University. Chief education policy advisor, Maryland Office of the Governor. Founder of Change PA, a Pennsylvania PAC focused on state elections.

*Immediately following class we will stream Hot Topics and Justice and the Law into the classroom.
