Welcome to Customer Service and Sales

This is an exciting time to study retailing. The retail industry is dynamic and disruptive, constantly reinventing itself to offer consumers new and customized shopping options. This evolution also creates refreshed opportunities for retail employees to sharpen the skills they need in order to advance and succeed in a retail career. The jobs of over 40 million Americans are tied either directly or indirectly to the retail industry, including areas such as buying merchandise, customer service, technology design and implementation, food service, merchandising, sales, distribution, human resource management, loss prevention, marketing, finance and data analysis.

 

Successful retail employees demonstrate a passion for the business, adaptability to change and a sense of urgency when providing customer service and completing work. Part of growing a successful career begins with building a foundation of critical knowledge and skills that can be applied on the job right away.

 

This course is designed for current and aspiring entry-level sales and customer service associates.

It provides tools to help you gain an understanding of the retail industry, retailer shopping channels, customers, customer service expectations, selling skills, professionalism, getting a job in the retail industry and setting your sights on continuous personal and professional growth. The Customer Service and Sales curriculum is aligned with industry standards and validated by retail companies across the United States.

After completing this course, candidates will be prepared to complete an exam and earn the Customer Service & Sales credential issued by the National Retail Federation (NRF) Foundation. This credential, once earner, is evidence of your achievement and should be shared with potential employers as a part of the application process; it can distinguish you from other applicants who do not possess it.

This course is a supplemental course, meaning this course will be used in conjunction with classes or lectures. You can work through the material at your own pace or in conjunction with an instructor-led course. The instructor led course may take place in-person or remotely.
