Five more topics in math, science, and medicine

This course will present 5 unrelated topics. The first will explain the workings of a transistor. The second will discuss the science of secrecy and cryptography. The third will explore the history of the number zero. The fourth will discuss cognitive errors and how and why we err in our thinking processes. The fifth will explore a topic in cosmology.

Instructor Bio:
Jonathan Roth, BS in biology, MS in chemistry, SUNY Albany; MD, SUNY Downstate. He did his residency in anesthesiology at Saint Elizabeth’s Hospital in Boston. He completed a fellowship in cardiothoracic anesthesiology at Emory University. Jonathan worked for 33 years at Albert Einstein Medical Center where he was chairman emeritus of the Department of Anesthesiology. He has authored many articles, book chapters, and case reports. He enjoys judging science fairs.
