Course Description

You must have already taken Project Management Basics I in order to take Project Management Basics II.

The second course in the Project Management Certificate continues to cover the project management framework. Both of the Project Management Basics classes will introduce you to templates and strategies that will help you effectively manage your projects from kickoff to closure.

By the end of the course, students will be able to: 

  • Choose from a variety of techniques for preparing a project budget; 
  • Analyze project risks and plan mitigating actions to reduce consequences; 
  • Prepare a Quality Management Plan to ensure that quality standards are maintained throughout project execution; 
  • Utilize a Stakeholder Communications Tool for managing stakeholder expectations and navigating interactions; 
  • Deploy a Project Reporting tool to keep team members and stakeholders on the same page; 
  • Describe the Conduct Procurements process and use a ratings matrix to select sellers; 
  • Explore metrics commonly used for tracking project performance; 
  • Obtain a process and tools for tracking and controlling project change; 
  • Utilize a template for formally closing the project and distributing/archiving project products.

Julie Spokus, Scrum Master, is an experienced IT Specialist with over 20 years of experience. Her work experience has been in the following fields: K-12 education, higher education, legal, healthcare, and government contracting. She got her start in the IT field as a technical trainer, and then moved into agile software development as a product owner and a scrum master. She is passionate about agile software development and holds various agile certifications as well as the PMP. Julie's education includes a Master of Art in Teaching Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) from Mount Vernon College and a Master of Science in Management of Information Technology from the University of Virginia.

A participant who withdraws from a non-credit course, in writing, up to one-week prior to the starting date of the course, will receive a refund, minus a $25 withdrawal fee; for all certificate programs the withdrawal fee is $50. For courses costing $75 or less, the withdrawal fee is $10 per course. No refunds will be given after that time. E-mail your withdrawal request to: course.withdrawals@temple.edu. Please note that if you do not officially withdrawal from a course and you do not attend the course, you are still responsible for payment. Temple University reserves the right to cancel a course for any reason. If the course is cancelled, you will be notified and your entire tuition will be refunded.
