Course Description

This course meets the requirements of Pennsylvania’s Child Abuse Recognition and Reporting continuing education requirement for licensed social workers. Accordingly, it provides an overview of Pennsylvania’s Child Welfare System, definitions of child abuse, provisions and responsibilities for reporting child abuse, and indicators of child abuse. Mandated reporters from other professions are also invited and encouraged to attend the training. This training will count towards Mandated Reporter licensure maintenance requirements within the state of Pennsylvania.

If eligible, you may also receive (3) continuing education credits for completing this training. If you are licensed in the state of Pennsylvania, once you complete this course and the corresponding evaluation, your completion will be reported to the Pennsylvania Bureau of Professional and Occupational Affairs so it can be applied towards licensure renewal requirements.

Learner Outcomes

By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:  
  • Compare and contrast criteria for reporting suspected child abuse to Childline​
  • Recognize the difference between Child Protective Services and General Protective Services​
  • Identify components of child abuse;​
  • Identify their responsibilities as mandated reporters
When participants return to the workplace, they will be able to:  
  • Report suspected child abuse to appropriate agencies within required time frames;​
  • Recognize signs of potential child abuse

Notes

Instructor Biography: Kyle McGee MS, MSW, LCSW is full-time instructor in Temple University’s School of Social Work. Prior to teaching, Kyle served as a drug and alcohol case manager. He has performed individual and group counseling interventions in a school setting grades 6-12, behavioral health treatment in outpatient settings, and clinical care management for family-based service providers. Most recently, he has provided brief behavioral interventions in a health system integrated care model.
