Course Description

Completion of this certificate program is required to work as a municipal police officer in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.  Recruits will participate in both academic and skill courses.  An example of courses are criminal law, firearms, emergency vehicle operations, defensive tactics, court procedures, interviewing, physical fitness, crime scene investigations, patrol procedures, and vehicle crash investigation.  The program meets for twenty two weeks, Monday through Friday.

Prerequisites

The Municipal Police Officers Education and Training Commission requires applicants meet several standards.  Applicants must pass the medical exam to MPOETC standards, pass a psychological exam, submit a three year driving history, applicants must meet the 30th percentile on the physical fitness test, and submit a criminal history.
