Course Description

The Strengths-based Family Worker Practicum course is an experiential learning noncredit course designed for participants directly working families in a human services field to meet the final requirements of the Credential for Strengths-Based Family Workers. Participants will apply skills they learned through prerequisite courses and practical experience and deepen their learning through discourse and reflection. This course is part of a nationally standardized professional training course comprised of a competency-based curriculum that ensures the strengths-based competence of students and workers in help-giving agencies and systems. The Practicum is fully online and asynchronous with one required live virtual assessment which will be scheduled individually.

Note: To enroll in this course, you must have passed/completed all of the prerequisite courses and exam as listed below.

Notes

Technology Requirements

This course requires the use of Canvas (https://templeu.instructure.com), including access to materials and assignment submission. Some videos posted via Canvas will require the use of speakers. The instructor may utilize web-conferencing tools to deliver synchronous material. To participate in synchronous sessions (should they exist), students should have a computer, a webcam, headphones, and a microphone. This course requires the use of Microsoft Office (i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Students can gain access to these materials by visiting the Computer Services Download Site.  Students should check their Temple e-mail daily for course updates.  All students are required to comply with Temple University’s Computer and Network Security Policy

Course Communication

The university requires students to use their “@temple.edu” e-mail account or to forward emails from this account to a different account. During the semester, the instructor and program support staff will generally respond to e-mail within 24 hours of receipt during the week and within 48 hours on weekends. ‘Netiquette rules apply to all course communication.


All cancellation requests must be in writing via email to sfwtuh@temple.edu and received by the Temple University Harrisburg staff before becoming effective.

**Please note: If a cancellation request is not made and the registrant does not attend the course as originally scheduled, the registrant is still responsible for payment for the scheduled course.

Cancellation and Refund Policy:

All cancellation requests must be received within 72 hours (3 business days) from the date of enrollment in the course AND the registered person has not accessed any portion of the online course. Cancellations that meet the criterial listed above will be eligible for a full refund of fees paid. 

 

Continuing Education - Social Work

This course has been approved for 2.1 CEUs and 21 Social Work Continuing Education Hours. Temple University Harrisburg is a PA State Board of Social Workers, Marriage and Family Therapists, and Professional Counselors pre-approved provider of continuing education.

Certificates documenting continuing education hours will be issued by Temple University Harrisburg. Participants must request these certificates through the CE request form/process listed below.

Certificates of completion documenting satisfactory completion of the professional development course will be generated/issued through DestinyOne.

To obtain Continuing Education Hours/Units, please complete the following items:

  • Pay the Continuing Education Fee of $20 (optional choice at check-out)
  • Meet all the requirements of the Canvas course.
  • Complete the CE Request Form (click blue hyperlink)
  • Complete the Course Evaluation (include your name)
