Course Description

This course is designed to strengthen social workers’ knowledge and skills when working with couples. A critical analysis of evidence-based interventions including social sequence analysis (such as turn-taking dynamics in conversation), Imago therapy, and cognitive-behavioral therapy will be discussed. Neurobiology and trauma aspects will be included as assessment and intervention tools.

Learner Outcomes

By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Increase their knowledge of evidence-based interventions.
  • Identify their values and potential biases in working with couples.

When participants return to the workplace, they will be able to:

  • Apply social sequence analysis to couples’ work.
  • Apply Imago and CBT interventions to couples’ work.
