CPHSSWCE0445 - Trauma-Specific Treatments
Course Description
This course begins with an introduction to the Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics (NMT), a neuroscience-informed and developmentally sensitive approach to clinical problem solving. Using the NMT as a framework, it then provides an overview of trauma-specific treatments, preparing participants to assess the benefits and limitations of each modality, as well as to critically consider how an individual's unique developmental needs should guide the intervention selection process. Among the modalities covered are: Prolonged-Exposure Therapy, Trauma-Focused CBT, Trauma-Focused Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and other mindfulness-based approaches, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and alternative therapies such as yoga and animal-assisted therapy. Please note that participants will not receive training in a specific trauma-treatment modality.
