A Survey on the Islamic Tradition

6-Week Course on Mondays from October 19-November 23 at 11:00 AM-12:30 PM

Take a detailed look at the Islamic intellectual tradition as it developed over the last fourteen centuries, from the time of the Quran’s revelation to now. Students will be introduced to the major branches of Islamic knowledge, the role of scripture, and the centrality of the exemplary life of the Prophet Muhammad. The course will strive to contextualize and operationalize the different branches of knowledge by providing students a survey of the foundations, principles, objectives, history, and key figures of each branch of knowledge. Thinkers discussed in the course include Rumi, Al-Ghazali, Abu Hanifa, and Rhazes.
