Course Description

This workshop is based on the idea that the human figure is a gift to the artist. Working from models, portrait studies of yourself, and participating students, you will investigate portraiture and the figure using an array of drawing materials. We will practice a range of drawing techniques (gesture, contour, measuring, value) using a range of traditional materials. We will learn to look and see effectively and rigorously. Towards the end of the course, we will look into the work of artists who expand figuration (David Hammons, Ana Mendieta, others) and experiment with large-scale work on paper. Previous observational drawing experience is required. There is an additional $25 model fee.
