Course Description

Course Description: In 2017, 2,813,503 individuals died in the United States.  Although death can be a hard topic to discuss, it does elicit questions about the quality of end of life care in the United States.  In this workshop, we take a look at the provision of end of life care, where it occurs, when is it received and whom receives the services.  We will explore the difference between Palliative Care and Hospice Care and the role of the Social Worker through the end of life process.

Target Audience: Beginner

Learner Outcomes

At the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Distinguish the differences between Palliative Care and Hospice Care
  • Explain the advance directives and how they fit into the end of life care discussions

When participants return to the workplace, they will:

  • Clarify the role social workers play in end of life care
  • Be empowered to start end of life care conversations with clients and support them and their families through these difficult events
