STHM0002 - Certificate in Sport Leadership
Course Description
The Certificate in Sport Leadership is a non-credit approach to meeting the professional development needs of those working in sport leadership roles. Housed in the Sport Industry Research Center (SIRC), the curriculum is designed with cutting edge research in mind. Currently, the certificate offers a track for coaches working in a variety of environments and situations. Additional tracks will be offered in the future based on demand to include executive management of youth sport and sport for development, board service in youth sport, and fundraising and development in non-profit sport organizations. The faculty in SIRC are actively involved in the dissemination of research to our industry partners and this certificate demonstrates our commitment to these partners, in particular those working in urban communities.
This certificate is a truly one-of-a kind curriculum managed by academic experts and rooted in both research and practice. We have brought together nationally recognized partners to support our goal of getting the best content in front of those who need it most. The key partners in this project include Mentoring IR, Positive Coaching Alliance, STRIVE, and WeCoach. Through this unique partnership, we are able to offer a comprehensive curriculum to support the professional development of the students in this certificate program.
Cohorts of 50 coaches are trained in a face-to-face, in person, on campus format through a series of four (4) full-day modules. Between modules, participants engage with one another through an online learning management system to support their continued growth and application of learning outcomes from the previous module(s). Students also have the opportunity to provide and receive peer reviews between sessions to further evaluate their learning and growth.
