Course Description

Learn to sculpt a life-size representational human portrait in clay. Working from observation, you will use yourself or someone you know as a model to create an accurate replica of a human portrait. Instruction will include lessons on photographing your model from multiple viewpoints for reference, and using calipers to take proportional measurements. Investigate facial anatomy, form, proportion, and human expression as you are guided through the process of classical figurative sculpture. Materials, tool usage, craftsmanship, and clay drying and firing will be reviewed. Join other students in a supportive environment, and take advantage of Tyler’s state-of-the-art ceramics facilities as you create a captivating portrait sculpture! Appropriate for all levels.
