Welcome to Protective Service Enrichment Training 2018-19!

  • 3 Key Topics ~ 3 Engaging Presenters
    • Class size is capped to maximize the learning experience
    • Registration is online only (no phone or email registrations please)
    • Two different training formats
      • One course topic is offered with a 6 hour face-to-face classroom instruction (no prerequisite or post requisite coursework required)
      • Two course topics are now offered as a hybrid program that has three components for completion - prerequisite, face-to-face 1/2 day classroom instruction, and post course work (completion of all three components is mandatory for attending this format)
    • Look closely at entire course number and location when adding to your cart
Continuing Education Credit (Social Work Credit):
Available and optional at check out. This item must be paid for at check out. Continuing Education Credit fee is $20.00.

 

Temple University Harrisburg is a pre-approved provider of continuing education by the PA State Board of Social Workers, Marriage and Family Therapists and Professional Counselors. These credit hours satisfy requirements for LSW/LCSW/LMFT/LPC biennial license renewal.

Course Outline

Topic 1 – Investigating Medical Issues and Concerns
(No Prerequisite/Postrequisite work required)
Instructors: Connie Twyman RN, MSN, CNE and Lori Knockstead

Protective services workers must frequently determine if an individual has acute medical needs that require further evaluation or if a caregiver is being neglectful. This training will examine common medical values, terms, diagnoses, and medical needs that protective services workers frequently encounter so that appropriate investigative plans and necessary interventions can be identified and executed.

Topic 2 - Risk Assessment
(No Prerequisite/Postrequisite work required)

Every day, Protective Services staff are responsible for making determinations of an individual's safety and risk, which can be the most difficult aspects of their work. In this interactive and dynamic training, participants learn how to assess risk across five domains in terms of severity and urgency.

Topic 3 - Initial Investigation: Taking the First Steps

(If you attended this training topic last year, please do not attend the same topic again this year)

In this interactive training, participants will be taught how to evaluate initial reports, how to prepare for the initial visit and reduce an individual's resistance, how to interview suspected perpetrators and how to assess dangerous situations.
