HBGCE0066 - Enhancing Communities Learning Series: Defining Your Leadership Style
Course Description
The Enhancing Communities Learning Series (ECLS) is a program of Temple University Harrisburg. The series offers you a convenient way to learn about important and relevant issues affecting nonprofits while enjoying a meal with your colleagues in the community. ECLS provides more than a chance to passively listen to presentations. We want you to be part of an interactive process of discovering new talents, opportunities and resources in the community – all while making the community more aware of your organization’s work. Each workshop includes: a meal and networking; announcements from attendees; and a workshop on a topic germane to nonprofit capacity building or community issues. The meal itself is just the beginning.

Defining Your Leadership Style
Are you - or your organization's leader - a visionary or a hands-on coach? Participatory or authoritarian?
Leadership can be a tricky business. Non-profit leaders, whether dealing with a team of staff or a group of dedicated volunteers, need to be able to motivate and engage others around the mission and objectives of the organization.
This workshop will explore the pros and cons of a variety of common leadership styles. Participants will be challenged to view their own leadership style not as a one-size-fits-all approach but rather as a holistic strengths-based approach to leading others.
This workshop is beneficial for anyone with any role in leading others within a non-profit organization.
Learner Outcomes
You'll learn to:
- Identify the leadership style that represents most closely the style being currently used in your organization
- List the pros and cons of at least two different leadership styles
- Develop a plan to incorporate a holistic strengths-based approach to leadership
