Course Description

Ever wonder how sex education can impact clinical practice? From combating problematic, inaccurate, and harmful sexuality information that comes from families, classrooms, peers, partners, and the media, to considering your own biases, history, and knowledge base, sexuality education is an integral piece to therapeutic clinical work. This one-day training will provide concrete ways to expand, deepen, and enliven your practice with specific materials, clinical best practices, theoretical approaches, mandatory reporting, and practice sessions.

Course Outline

Offered in two locations:

Harrisburg, March 27, 2018 (Section 1)

Philadelphia, March 28, 2018 (Section 2)

 

Registration 8:30am – 9:00am; Training 9:00am – 4:00pm; Lunch will be provided.

Learner Outcomes

Participants will be able to:

  1. Identify at least two ways that sexuality education can enhance clinical practice for mental health practitioners.
  2. Evaluate their own personal biases related to sex and sexuality in their clinical practice.
  3. Explain two new topics related to sex and sexuality.
  4. Identify two barriers to client learning and how to overcome them.
  5. Discuss legal concerns related to incorporating sex ed into clinical practice when working with adults and minors.
  6. Demonstrate at least one way to incorporate sex ed into a clinical setting.
