Course Description

Luther has been credited for using the printed page to change history and, despite the computer generation, books are still as important as ever. This course will delve into the social, religious, ethical and political perversions of history, which have produced immortal responses from conscious-ridden individuals. The following books will be discussed in this order:

Faust, by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
Gulag, by Anne Applebaum
The Jungle, by Upton Sinclair
The Prince, by Nicole Machiavelli
Les Miserables, by Victor Hugo

Please start reading. Books can be purchased at local book stores and online book vendors. Class enrollment is limited to 30 students.

Presented by Michael Heinsdorf, MDiv, STM, MA, a former Lutheran pastor, high school German instructor and adjunct faculty member at LaSalle University.
