Course Description

Continue on your path towards life-long learning with this one day course that is specifically targeted to DPT students who would like to gain additional skills and knowledge in the management of cervical and thoracic spine disorders.  Comprising both didactic and hands on lab focused content, this course will cover the evidence, clinical reasoning, and psychomotor skills for the management of patients with various spinal disorders

Course Outline

Each topic will feature a short ‘TED” style talk followed by discussion and hands on practice for a truly interactive learning environment

Hands on or hands off? Integrating pain science with manual therapy and therapeutic exercise

Current concepts and controversies surrounding cervical spine manipulation

Clinical application of thoracic spine manipulation

Functional therapeutic exercise for patients with cervical and thoracic pain

Learner Outcomes

At the end of this one day course, students will be able to achieve the following in relation to the management of patients with spinal disorders. 

Synthesize the current evidence with sound clinical reasoning

Safely and effectively apply spinal manual therapy techniques

Integrate patient-centered functional exercise

Prerequisites

Current student enrolled in an accredited DPT program.  Recommend current enrollment in or completion of musculoskeletal evaluation and management coursework.
