Course Description

This course will explore topics in applied linguistics, including: how consonants and vowels are formed; meaning and meaning relationships of words; how American English is changing and how new words are created; varieties of American English; language as a tool in social transactions; factors that affect the learning of a second language; and aspects of bilingualism.  A combination of discussion questions, lecture, and problem-solving tasks will be used to address these topics.
