OIACI0002 - A Bite of China
Course Description
This workshop aims to expose participants to multiple aspects of Chinese culture pertaining to food by concentrating on different topics including: the Chinese diet/cooking philosophy, the major differences between Chinese and Western cuisine, cultural associations of foods, explanations of the different regional cuisines, general Chinese dining etiquette and much more. After 2 hours of discussion in the classroom you will get to utilize some of what you have learned earlier in the day when everyone will take a shuttle bus down to Chinatown for lunch, followed by a walk through at a Chinese supermarket.
By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to shop at an Asian supermarket without intimidation, order at a Chinese restaurant with greater confidence and have a better overall comprehension of Chinese food and its culture.
Lunch and transportation to and from Chinatown will be included in your registration. Anything you would like to purchase at the supermarket will be your responsibility.

Schedule:
10:00 - 12:00 pm - Instruction in classroom
12:00 - shuttle bus to Chinatown
12:30 -2:00 - lunch at Chinatown restaurant
2:00 - instruction and walk through Chinese Supermarket in Chinatown
3:00 - shuttle bus back to campus
