Learner Outcomes

Statements from previous Chinese Calligraphy students:

"I think learning calligraphy is beneficial to learning Chinese because it allows you to see how the characters are formed. You learn why certain things have certain meanings and how they interact with each other. This will benefit your reading and writing extremely much. It also lets you participate in an important part of Chinese culture. Further, it is good for your mind. When I write calligraphy, I feel my worries melt away." - A. Mayro

"I enrolled in this course on a whim and it has turned into one of the most wonderful moments during my week. The classroom environment is very welcoming, the instructor is gentle and encouraging, and students learn at their own pace. While calligraphy may seem impossible to the non-speaker of Chinese (like myself), this art form has many accessible facets; you will gain new understanding and appreciation of Chinese history, philosophy, religion, literature, linguistics, and more. Calligraphy uses the “Four Treasures” (brush, paper, ink, inkstone) but this course offers a valuable fifth – friendship." - S. Adams
