TRACE0018 - Printmaking Fundamentals: Monotype and Beyond
Course Description
Learn the fundamentals of printmaking while exploring the vast creative possibilities of monotype printing techniques. As its name suggests, a monotype consists of a one-of-a-kind printed impression. The most basic form of the process entails applying printing ink to a plate and then printing onto paper with a press. It is straightforward and extremely accessible, yet holds many secrets and creative opportunities. Artists have embraced this process for its ease and immediacy, as well as the particular visual qualities of the impressions it yields. Through step-by-step demonstrations we will explore the monotype process beginning with the fundamentals, and gradually moving into more complex terrain such as multi-plate printing, chine colle, and stenciling. No prior art-making skill or experience is necessary!
