Course Description
The end-of-life resident support system can be complex. This hybrid training will explore hospice and palliative care and legal issues licensing staff may have to investigate. This 8-hour training includes 2.5 hours of prerequisites and 5.5 hours of live virtual training. The prerequisite training includes a self-paced training on legal issues for residents with chronic illness or terminal diagnosis. The live virtual program will include a review and discussion on palliative and hospice care, provide an opportunity to learn about grief and identify ways to support individuals, and discuss ethical issues.
Course Outline
Registration:
- Individual online registration is required
- This training is for Pennsylvania Department of Human Services Bureau of Human Services Licensing staff only
- There are a limited number of registrations per training
This hybrid training has two parts, both need to be completed to receive credit. The total training time (both parts) is 8 hours.

The 2.5-hour online self-paced prerequisite will be available on the Thinkific LMS Platform. Instructions on how to access this platform will be sent after registration. This prerequisite training must be completed in its entirety before attending live virtual training.

The 5.5-hour live virtual training will be hosted on Zoom Meeting. The link for the live training will be sent to participants that are registered and have completed the 2.5-hour online prerequisite. Audio and video ARE required to be turned on for the live training on the Zoom platform.
In order to receive 8-credit hours, participants must:

VIDEO AND AUDIO required to be turned on for live virtual training, via Zoom

Certificates for 8 hours will be issued upon successful completion and verification of both activities

Partial certificates for completing one activity are not available

Identify the legal issues that can arise when a resident has a chronic illness or is approaching the end of their life.
