CDE1763 - Digital Dentistry and its applications to everyday General Practice!
Course Description
Digital Dentistry is here to stay! Intraoral Scanning is the entryway to many workflows for fixed, removable and implant restorations. While many of our skills as dentists still apply, to become a successful digital dentist, considerations should be taken when using milling units and 3D printers to fabricate restorations. The latest evidence-based dentistry in digital workflows will be reviewed during this course in order to guide the practitioner through decision making. Through hands on experiences, the practitioner will learn how to use Trios Intraoral scanner and utilize 3Shape Design software to evaluate tooth preparations and design a restoration for milling.

Learner Outcomes
Upon course completion, the participant will:
- Recognise the use of ceramics and bonding can conserve tooth structure.
- Recognise why digital dentures can improve fit and function of complete and partial dentures.
- Recognise how efficient use of digital equipment in a private practice can increase revenue.
- Recognise why digital implant planning for guided surgery achieves the most predictable results.
- Recognise how Digital Wax ups can illustrate possibilities for both practitioner and patient.

Dr. Aaron Segal - Digital dentures (Partials and Complete)
Aaron G. Segal received his dental degree from Columbia University School of Dental and Oral Surgery. After a one-year GP Residency, he completed a three year certificate residency at the VA Medical Center, Wilmington DE in Fixed, Removable and Maxillofacial Prosthodontics. For the next 25 years Dr. Segal maintained a private practice on Long Island, NY as well as a part-time teaching appointment at the Stony Brook University School of Dental Medicine. Dr. Segal decided to go into full time academics in 2009 and the following year became board certified by the American Board of Prosthodontics. His career at the Kornberg School of Dentistry began in 2015. Dr. Segal is currently an Associate Professor and the Chair of the Department of Restorative Dentistry.
Dr. Geraldine Weinstein - Conserving Tooth Structure Through All Ceramic Restorations
Geraldine Weinstein, DDS, MPH is a Clinical Professor and Director of Digital Education and Practice at Kornberg School of Dentistry. Since graduating from the University of Maryland Dental school, she has had experiences of working in private practice and multiple dental schools. Her greatest interest and passion lie in integration of Digital technology such as Intraoral scanners, software and haptic simulators into dental education to increase student learning. She is dedicated to the creation of digital workflows that can improve evaluation and understanding of our clinical work to create reliable patient outcomes.
Michael Barnes MD, DDS- Digital Workflows 2023: Choose Your Own Adventure
Dr. Barnes graduated from the Keck School of Medicine at the University of Southern California with his MD in 2007. He completed 2 years of general surgery residency at Temple University Hospital before enrolling at Columbia University’s College of Dental Medicine. After earning his DDS, he joined Dr. Mestichelli to form Mestichelli Barnes Dental Associates. With his unique background and skill set, Dr. Barnes has expanded the offerings of his practice to include implant placement, Invisalign, and various cosmetic services. With his love of technology, he has the pushed the practice to the cutting edge of modern dentistry. As a part time faculty member of Kornberg School of Dentistry at Temple University, he enjoys sharing his skills and passion with the next generation of dentists.
Nupur Patel BDS, DMD, MS, FACP - Lecture Title: Implant Planning for guided surgery placement and scanning Implants
Dr. Nupur Patel is a Board-certified Prosthodontist. She completed her Bachelor of Dental Surgery degree from India before moving the United States. She then completed DMD through the Program for Advanced Standing Students at Temple University Kornberg School of Dentistry. She obtained her Certificate in Prosthodontics and Master of Science in Oral Biology from University of Pennsylvania and a Fellowship in Oral Oncology and Maxillofacial Prosthodontics from the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. Currently, Dr. Patel is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Restorative Dentistry at Maurice H Kornberg School of Dentistry at Temple University in Philadelphia. She is a Diplomate of the American Board of Prosthodontics and has received multiple awards from local and national organizations. Dr. Patel is a fellow of the American College of Prosthodontists, an associate fellow of American Academy of Maxillofacial Prosthetics, a member of the American Dental Association and has presented multiple posters at national and international meetings.
Sooryung Ann - Diagnostic Digital Wax Ups
Sooryung Ann is the in-house dental technician and assistant director of CAD/CAM lab at Kornberg school of Dentistry. She has a background of computer science and interior architecture, but changes in life led her to a career in the dental field, and it’s already been more than 15 years now. As you all understand, digital technology made a lot of things come true that were not imagined possible several years ago. Soo’s interests lie in new, better and faster technology that she can learn and share. She enjoys using digital technology on esthetic cases that can provide both a smile on patient’s face and functional solution.
