Course Description

This DVD-facilitated course by Prof. Robert Green- berg is a continuation from the fall semester. Previ- ous attendance is not required. Lectures begin with the late 19th century Concertos of Tchaikovsky and Brahms. We also examine another aspect of Romanticism-Nationalism. Folk-music inspired the Bohemian Dvorak, the Russian Rachmaninoff, and the Hungarian Bartok. The concerto genre, always responsive to innovation, concludes with examples of mid- to late 20th century composers, including Gershwin and Corigliano & Carter, performed by brilliant soloists.
