The certificate in Play Therapy is awarded to students who successfully complete the five courses in the program. The program provides credentials to professionals in the mental health, counseling, and social work fields. Students may also enroll in one course for continuing education credit; Temple University is an approved provider (07-206) of play therapy continuing education training in Pennsylvania. Persons interested in becoming registered play therapists should consult the Association for Play Therapy website (https:/a4pt.org) for a complete list of the requirements, which include 150 hours of instruction from an approved provider.
Eligibility: Applicants are required to have a bachelor’s degree; Master’s degree preferred. Most students are enrolled in a master’s degree program concurrently, have a master’s degree, or multiple years of equivalent professional experience in a related field (such as education, social work, or counseling). Applicants will be required to submit academic transcripts, a resume or CV, and a brief statement of interests.
After an application is submitted and approved, a student may register for courses as follows: students are encouraged to enroll in the first course, Introduction to Play Therapy, and take the courses in sequence. However, the first three courses can be taken in any order. Following the successful completion of the first three, a student must take the last two in sequence.
Cost: There is no application fee. The cost of each course is $700.
