The ProRanger Philadelphia is an academic and technical skills training and internship program that is cooperatively administered by the National Park Service and Temple University. The program was established to train and expose students to the career field of a law enforcement park ranger.

The program consists of the following elements:

  • Completion of the Certificate in National Park Service Management, six course (15 credit) academic certificate program with a program GPA of 2.75, as part of a Temple University bachelor's degree (with a cumulative  GPA of 2.75).
  • Complete summer internship at a national park.
  • Attend Temple University's Park Ranger Law Enforcement Academy, located at the Ambler Campus.
  • Attend all required programs and activities. These may take place off-campus and may be scheduled on weekends and/or during winter and spring breaks.
  • Wear the provided uniform.
  • Achieve physical fitness standards by required deadlines.
  • Adhere to all program performance and conduct standards.

Eligibility requirements include:

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen; males must be registered with the selective service
  • Must be a Temple student and maintain a cumulative and program GPA of 2.75
  • Must hold a valid driver's license (or agree to obtain a valid driver's license and driving experience prior to beginning first summer internship).
  • Provide proof of private health insurance.
  • Meet NPS medical and physical fitness standards and provide proof of medical clearance to participate in physical fitness activities.
  • Adhere to all program performance and conduct standards, including
    • Federal background investigation
    • Criminal, driver’s and credit history checks
    • Drug screening tests

After successfully graduating from Temple University and meeting all program requirements and program standards, ProRangers are eligible for non-competitive conversion to a position as a Law Enforcement Ranger within the National Park Service.  Students must apply for positions and be selected under the applicable hiring authority.  There is no guarantee that a position will be obtained; however, it may be noted that all previous students who have successfully completed the program have been offered employment within the National Park Service.

Once you complete this application, you will be invited to the ProRanger Program Preview Day on Tuesday, October 12th and the Physical Efficiency Battery on Wednesday October 13th. Attendance on these days is required for admission into the program.
