PT0009 - Foundations of Vestibular Rehabilition
Course Description
This course will cover the fundamental knowledge and skills required to begin treating individuals with vestibular disorder or symptoms of dizziness and imbalance. The course contains 15 hours of content through online and 2 days of face to face education including lectures, group discussions, and laboratory experiences. Case studies and videos are utilized to enhance participants learning. The faculty utilizes evidence based practice to educate on best practices in vestibular rehabilitation. In additional all participants will be invited to a participate in a 1 hour post course webex meeting to discuss post course experiences and clinical problems month after course completion.

Learner Outcomes
After this course the participant will:
1. Describe anatomy & physiology of vestibular and balance system.
2. Identify at least 3 central or peripheral pathologies associated with complaints of imbalance/dizziness.
3. Perform a patient history, screen and test/measures to complete comprehensive evaluation of individual refer to physical therapy who have complaints of dizziness and imbalance. Including appropriately perform oculomotor, postural control, and BPPV positioning test techniques.
4. Using case scenarios and discussion, interpret examination findings and develop a clinical impression, treatment plan, goals and prognosis for patient outcomes.
5. Instruct performance and progression of vestibular adaptation, habituation, and postural control activities that matched identified patient problems.
6. Accurately perform and instruct on canalth reposition maneuvers for typical forms of BPPV.
7. Determine when appropriate referrals are required to other health care providers, agencies or resources.
8. Identify at least 3 co-morbidities and describe how they might affect an individual’s presentation, intervention and outcomes of vestibular rehabilitation
